Ingredients:

  • Tortillas 
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions: 

  • Cut uncooked tortillas into triangle shapes
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the tortilla pieces to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the tortilla pieces from the skillet and set aside.
  • Add the La Popular Maka Tlan birria sauce to the same skillet and bring to a simmer.
  • Return the tortilla pieces to the skillet and coat them in the birria sauce.
  • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the tortilla pieces are heated through.
  • Remove the pieces from the skillet and transfer to a plate.
  • Top with Queso Fresco or your preferred cheese, cilantro, sour cream, green onions, salt, and pepper.

Here are some tips for making the best Biria Chilaquiles:

  • Heat the oil over medium heat. If the oil is too hot, the tortilla pieces will burn before they can crisp up.
  • Cook the tortilla pieces in batches. If you try to cook too many tortilla pieces at once, they will steam instead of crisp up.
  • Don’t overcrowd the skillet. If you crowd the skillet, the tortilla pieces need more room to cook evenly.
  • Cook the tortilla pieces until they are golden brown and crispy. If the tortilla pieces are not crispy, they will not soak up the birria sauce as well.
